The bloc’s 27 leaders will meet to tackle defense spending, support for Ukraine, competitiveness, the Middle East and migration.
It’s becoming a thing — another week, another meeting of European Union leaders in Brussels.
As was the case earlier this month and at the leaders’ retreat in February, defense spending is again top of mind. The main topic will be Ukraine, of course, as the bloc continues to show its support for Kyiv while the Trump administration rapidly loses interest.
While there is a long list of topics to be discussed, from competitiveness to the Middle East and energy, the overarching aim of the gathering is to find the money and draft the rules needed to turn the bloc into a military superpower.
With so much to be covered, European Council President António Costa has warned the leaders that they might have to stick around for two days this time.
